Dead Bath & Beyond
So I go places and notice things. Like how after this Bed Bath & Beyond store in Rockville closed the entire building seems to be dying. The rest of the shopping center--with a Petco, a Michaels, and an Aldi--looks just fine. If a suburban shopping center can ever look "fine." Anyway. I go places, I notice things, and then I make stuff. Please don't ask me why.

Brooks Tegler in the Studio
Переглядів 6196 місяців тому
I recorded this interview with drummer and Gene Krupa authority Brooks Tegler on July 6, 2007, at Bias Recording Studios in Springfield, Va. I had recently been annointed as New Media Editor at Washington City Paper, mostly because I had a newfangled minDV camera and went around bothering people with it. I covered the first Capital Fringe Fest and first DC Shorts Festival. Those videos are on U...
Bill Holland takes the Blindfold Test
Переглядів 686 місяців тому
Around 2009, I went over to Bill Holland's house with the idea of recording him taking the famous Downbeat Magazine Blindfold Test, or my version of it. Originated by famed jazz critic Leonard Feather in the '40s, the idea was to get prominent musician's reactions to records of the day. Like Feather, Bill Holland is one of the most knowledgeable musicians around. He was the Washington, D.C., bu...

Dave Nuttycombe's Suburban Mysteries

Time once again for Dave Nuttycombe's Suburban Mysteries, the series that takes a bold, frankly too-bold, look at some of the curious, and frankly too-curious, occurrences, happenings, and just plain things that go on in the outlying areas surrounding our Nation's Capital (Washington, D.C.). In this episode, Mr. Nuttycombe tries to get to the bottom of a mystery in plain sight. More information...

Ode to the Uptown Theater
Переглядів 4664 роки тому
The Uptown Theater in Washington, D.C., is a local landmark and one of the last classic movie palaces. Built in the Art Deco style in 1936, the Uptown has been the site of many major movie premiers. Star Wars opened at the Uptown in 1977, and I was there. Because of the changes in the exhibition industry, and many other reasons, the AMC Theaters has decided to close the Uptown. These are my mem...

Mike Cotter and his band perform Bruce Springsteen's "If I Should Fall Behind" at the Sunset Grille in Annandale, Va., Nov. 13, 2010. Shot with my Canon A590 point-and-shoot so forgive the sound and picture. The Nuttycombe Report: Days of Future Past
I grew up with Niel Innes song about the raggy dolls, after that, I found the Rutles :D
"I must be in love" would pass for a genuine Beatles track.🎸
You sir was a FANTASTIC musician and in my humble opinion, was the secret 6th Monty Python! - RIP Neil ❤❤❤❤
bed bath & beyond = dead bath beyond😀🤣
how are we related say ian nuttycombe?
Ha! I'm related to the Nuttycombes of Charlottesville, Va., who came from Bristol/Bath England in the late 1800s. I believe there's a Canadian branch, and a California bunch, which features singer Craig Nuttycombe. Good to "meet" you!
@@nuttycombe i am from Australian branch of same name lol, those US sell out!
@@iamnutty8471Ha! I met some of your clan at a reunion. I believe they were in the military and/or surfers. Swell folks.
@@nuttycombe Really? thought we were the only nuts that had rolled south, havent bene ben back for 10 year maybe some more?
@@iamnutty8471Will try to find the list of attendees. It was the 100th anniversary of Oakleigh, the house in Charlottesville, Va., that my great-grandfather built. Was recently torn down to make way for an old folks home. Of course.
Dork😂😂
Delightful...and a complete surprise :-)
Oh, watching this is how I've just learned of his death. Amazing songs
This is so boring and inconsequential if you are an actual musician. This guy really thinks a lot of himself, and it shows. 🙄
Don't know who you are but I hope you become as good a musician as this guy is.
Love Krupa. Love drums. I have played in Krupa-style ensembles for over two decades. My answer to this video: "Who cares?" This has literally NOTHING to do with music. Not educational. Not inspirational. "I bought a thing, or I have a thing" is not interview-worthy.
Wouldn’t it have been cool to actually see and hear Gene Krupa’s cymbals rather than just hear someone talk about them while having a cigarette break?
Sure. Go to the search bar and type "Gene Krupa" and you'll find a lot of videos of just that. Thanks.
Listening to Krupa recordings is much more educational. I don't understand this "collector" mentality. Most people interested in these details DO NOT actually play gigs. Just sayin'.
Thank you.
Fascinating stuff.
Really?😴
This is awesome
Honestly - what would the Beatles be without the Rutles?
Doubleback Alley and Let's Be Natural are Beatles standard and astonishingly good.
I was Totally Fascinated by this video. I was deeply shocked and saddened at the end of the video to learn that this TALENTED man had passed away. He wrote and arrange most of the funny songs you hear in Python Films. RIP Mr. Innes.
Neil turned out to be an amazing songwriter.
Very nice. Who did the saxophone quartet pieces at the intro and outro?
It's the Washington Saxophone Quartet. They've done several musical IDs for NPR.
Sgt Rutter - a millstone in pop music history!
You brought me so many laughs, Thank You and MGBY Neil Innes! ❤
The theater has been saved and deemed a historical DC landmark.
where can we watch this full movie?
Sadly nowhere at the moment. This is part of a documentary about Beatle tribute bands and apparently the rights to Beatle music are rather high. So if you have a few spare million, or Sir Paul or Lady Yoko's phone number then we're good. Thanks for watching.
@@nuttycombe Yes, I've seen several beetles documentaries that contain no music. You may have to limit the music to just 10 seconds each clip.
@@bradwaddell2274 Yes, it's rather frustrating. But thanks for the encouragement. Still trying to get the thing done.
I patiently watched this video to the end hoping you would share some insight on Bob Newhart
Neil = Genius.
Hey I just heard the ending music to your video, sounds very familiar. Didn't I write that song one summer on your family piano and you were playing drums?...hmmm
Thank you for that insightful and thought provoking clip on Sharknado. Do you happen to have an email address of a fan club I could join?
Absolutely thrilled with the contents of this box!
The rutles are one of my favourite bands. No kidding. Neil Innes is just brilliant. Sadly missed.
I included The Rutles in my iTunes Beatles playlist. Based on number of plays, Get Up and Go is my favorite "Beatle song".
I can understand that, I feel the same. "Piggy" is my fave, but I love everything. In '96 I made up a tape of Rutles and gave it to someone who was just getting into the Beatles, I didn't tell him for ages, but he wasnt to pleased when I did. The point being the Rutles were so good, it's easy to fool people 👦👍🎶🎶
The Rutles are what The Beatles could have been if they had only had a lower production budget, less talent, no ambition and tighter trousers.
I'm not saying it was aliens but, well... okay, it was aliens.
I must be in loov.
As Redd Foxx would say, "Dave Nuttycombe is one bad mother freckle."
He was a ninth grader when he sang at our seventh grade dance with "The Flat Tops". UFO ABDUCTION SOLUTION ua-cam.com/video/TrMFzxWD0Fo/v-deo.html
Parodying the Beatles forced Neil to write songs with structure - intros, verses, choruses, bridges, etc... Thus he wrote the best songs of his career, by parodying the best pop writers in history.
As opposed to Tubas in the Moonlight? (Fantastic song he wrote for the Bonzos)
He was writing great songs for years before
I wish I could afford to shop at JC Penny
If you’re reading this, both Carl and Ray have passed away. I sure miss this place and without them there, it’s just so sad.
Agreed.

Love these guys growing up in Maryland in the 80's. So great to see them again.
'Can't Buy Me Lunch' is my fav of theirs.

Fantastic! Thanks!
A brilliant movie!

@@nuttycombe yes! This is incredible, thank you so much
A Nuttycracker Suite for sure
❤️📕🖤✊🏿💚🥦
Brilliant stuff, some of the tracks ARE better than the Beatle versions. "Get up and Go" and "Love life" to name but two
and more original ... Cheese and Onions
plus "Another Day"!
My favs are Ouch! , it’s looking good & Doubleback Alley. & Love Life of course.
Goose Step Mama was what Some Other guy and I Saw Her Standing There could have been if they were parodies.
I revoke my view.
How close does Dave live to the Sligo Creek Golf Course any way?
